Cutting Through the Chaos
The world of digital badging is undergoing rapid growth and interest, which is excellent, but with it comes many voices on how to run a program. This session will give you the knowledge to understand what digital badging is and how it can support your learners. We will also provide an overview of the key players and influencers in this space and their roles. We will provide a structure for individuals to identify who impacts their programs and iterate on this throughout the session.

Wikis for Community-Defined Skills Frameworks
The Open Recognition working group of the Open Skills Network (OSN) is identifying cases in which worker-learners acquire skills from nontraditional job settings and learning experiences to recognize their legitimacy.

As part of our work, we've identified needs for:
  1. Openly licensed skills frameworks
  2. Accessible tools for authoring skills definitions.
Wikis are mature, easily-accessible tools for collaborative authoring and openly licensed content, with established conventions/rules for social collaboration. In addition, skills defined in a wiki are easily converted to machine-readable formats, e.g., Rich Skill Descriptors (RSDs).

This session will introduce a new category of Badge Wiki for using and editing openly licensed skills frameworks, demonstrating how badge system designers can contribute and collaborate for increased impact.

CLR and/or LER - What is the Difference?
CLR and/or LER - What is the Difference? Where do micro-credentials fit in? Where do these new learner attestations fit into a higher educational landscape?  What role do registrars play in shaping the direction of an institutions' alternate credential path?  Are there critical decisions that must be made now?  How do we ensure all learners and institutions have equal access to these credential opportunities?

Language Badging to Benefit All
Companies are beginning to recognize just how valuable language skills are for their employees. However, multilingual people don't always know how to illustrate what they are able to do in each language. Whether the language was learned at home, in school, or while living abroad, it is important to properly assess one's language skills and illustrate that proficiency level in a way that is understandable to a broad audience. Avant Assessment provides proficiency-based language assessments that lead to badges which can be shared with institutions of higher education, potential employers, or the general public. And since badges are stackable, the multi-level badges provide an opportunity to create pathways for lifelong language learning. This presentation will illustrate the Avant Proficiency Cycle and how our badges can create opportunities for multilingual students and employees to validate, improve, and celebrate their language skills.
