Table Talk - K=> Career Pathways to Prepare for and Access Successful Futures
At Skyepack, we work with universities, associations, and corporations to create innovative micro-credential ecosystems. Using that expertise, we've created this guide to micro-credentialing, in which we'll answer the following questions:

  • What is a micro-credential?
  • What are the benefits of micro-credentialing?
  • How do you create a micro-credential?
After providing an overview of micro-credentials, we'll break down what the course creation process looks like for these unique courses using Skyepack's process as an example.

Let's get started!

Table Talk | Competency-Based Education Using Digital Badges in a High School History Course
In my qualitative research at the University of Pennsylvania, I implemented gamification and digital badges through "Gradecraft," an LMS designed by the University of Michigan to promote self-efficacy, personalized-education and competency-based grading. Using their sophisticated digital badging system, students could choose what standards they could obtain by providing evidence for competency. These credentials represented essential historical thinking skills that could be earned at any time during the course through summative and formative assessments. The acquisition of badges was not an easy task, but when achieved, it was rewarding.

Table Talk - Building Sustainable and Effective Communities of Practice to Support the Development and Use of “Badging” at an R1 Institution
Multiple units from the University of Texas at Austin were simultaneously, yet independently, interested in developing micro credential programs.  Not unlike a game of telephone, word spread and folks invested in the development of micro credential programs started finding one another through a well-known and respected senior level educational technologist.  Under the leadership of a vice provost, interested professional staff and faculty were brought together and over a series of bimonthly meetings, jointly created a plan to organize the roll out of UT branded badges.  We will share our experiences of simultaneously working on the university working group and developing micro credential frameworks to support our own units (School of Business and College of Natural Sciences) from our points of view as professional staff and faculty tasked with developing programs to support the unique needs of our units.  We look forward to both sharing what we have learned and learning from others.
